Print out the worksheet and cut the picture options on the next page. Ask the child to look at the pattern and tell you which picture should come next by choosing among the possible pictures.
There are 4 pattern strips in total, increasing in difficulty. Understanding patterns help prepare children for learning complex number concepts.
I find that saying it out helps Mr. R to figure out the pattern better. Now, when he does the worksheets independently, he still says it out loud.
If your child is finding it difficult, they may just need the pattern to be longer. You could print out 2 of the page with the pattern strips on and stick them together side by side to make the repetitions more obvious.
Ask the child to cut out the picture options themselves. Done this way, the activity will helps with both math and fine motor skills.
